I live in Casa Grande Arizona. My front yard is mostly shaded by a Mesquite Tree. Is it possible to plant a Lilac tree and Rose bushes here and will they do well with out soil? |
Not much will grow in the shade beneath a mesquite tree. The soil will be dry and plants will have to compete for moisture and nutrients with the roots of the tree. Lilac tree needs full sunshine, as do roses. You might be successful if you plant some highly adapted desert plants such as Mexican honeysuckle, Baja fairy duster, Texas sage or cassia. Best wishes with your landscape. |
