|Lacecap Hydrangea flower clusters contain both sterile and fertile flowers within the cluster. Sounds like your hydrangeas are Lacecap because they have a flat center cluster of sterile flowers rimmed by fertile flowers around the outer edge of the cluster. There's nothing you can do to change the blooming habits of your hydrangeas. If you want a flower that opens fully, you can grow oakleaf hydrangea or Pee Gee hydrangeas in your garden.
