My basil is being eaten by something. The plants were very healthy and suddenly something started to eat the foliage. I have tried cutting off the bad leaves but it is getting worse. What causes this and what can I safely put on or near it to prevent this? Fran from Shelton |
Since you'll be consuming your basil, it's best not to apply insecticides, especially since you don't know what might be feeding on the leaves. It's possible that caterpillars, earwigs or beetles have found your treasures but unless you catch them in the act, there's not much you can do to control them. Check your plant several times a day and after dark, too. If you find the culprits just hand pick them or rinse them off your plants. Wish I had a solution to share with you! |
