|The major problem with plants in containers left outdoors over the winter months is that the roots will be exposed to the cold weather and can freeze solid. Similar plants in the ground are insulated by the earth. You can try sinking the pots into the ground over the winter months, or try wrapping insulation around them and setting them in a protected area during the winter months. Hope this clarifies things for you.
