Pruning won't hurt your lorapetalum but if you prune your azalea now you may be pruning off flower buds for next year's floral display. Azaleas spend the summer developing leaf and flower buds for the next year. They should be pruned immediately after the flowers are spent rather than later in the summer. Best wishes with your landscape.
