|You didn't say what kind of fertilizer you applied and that's a concern. Plants in containers are more sensitive to the salts in fertilizers because they tend to accumulate around the roots and can actually burn the roots, which can cause the needles to dry out and drop off. When feeding containerized plants it's best to use a half strength dilution of a water soluable fertilizer such as Miracle Gro and feed every 3-4 weeks during the growing season. Feeding in this way provides a constant source of nutrients without the possibility of overfeeding and burning the roots. At this point I would water thoroughly once or twice a week and hold off on fertilizer. With any luck the salts will leach out of the soil and your spruces will recover. Hope you see an improvement soon!
