|The problem with common names is that they can mean different things in different parts of the country. To me, Red Amazon Vine is Dutchmans Pipe (Aristolochia). If that's what you are growing, it is a perennial although it is hardy in gardening zones 8-10 but it can die down to ground level if the winter weather is cold. It prefers to be watered deeply. Twice a week in the summer should be just fine for this plant.
