|When is the best time to prune (shape) white pine trees?

|There are two ways to control the size of a white pine. The easiest is to simply snap off all or parts of the new growth (called candles) each spring. The other is to shear the tree all over on an annual basis. Snapping off the candles will help the tree remain small and yet retain its natural growth habit; shearing all over each June will produce a thick and bushy shrub-like tree. Hope this clarifies things for you.
