|Black Magic elephant ears typically grow about 3' tall so yours are a little smaller than they should be this time of year. The answer may be that although the bulbs were large, they simply were not as mature as they could be and did not have enough stored energy to make rapid growth. I think that they will perform better for you next year. You can give them a headstart by planting them in containers indoors in April. By the time the weather outdoors is warm enought to plant, the bulbs will have developed a few leaves and be ready to grow.
