|Supertunias can develop root rot if the soil remains too wet so the rain might be responsible for the death of your plants. I've found that unless they have perfectly draining soils they can be stressed by the summer heat and simply wilt and die. I pull out the dead plants, roots and all, and replace them with something else so I still have color in the garden or hanging baskets. Best wishes with your garden.
