My pecan tree has shown evidence of tent worms. I removed the effected areas. Is there a preventative treatment for these? All neighborhood pecan trees are effected every year.

The best control is an application of horticultural oil in the wintertime which will suffocate the overwintering eggs and stop the invasion the following spring and summer. Here's a publication from Texas A & M that you might find helpful:

Best wishes with your pecan tree!
