It can be difficult to determine which are new flower buds and which need to be deadheaded so experience will be your best teacher. After the flower cluster opens you should be able to watch it as it matures. When the flower petals begin to wilt you can simply prune off the entire cluster of flowers. You can even reduce the length of the flowering stem, too. New flower buds will be green and tightly closed; faded flowers will lose their petals but the center will develop into seed pods which will turn a tannish brown. Hope this information helps!
