|What is the name of this plant? And how do I care for it?
|You have a Jade plant and it's really easy to care for. Jade plants will tolerate some direct sunlight but will thrive in front of a south or east facing window. If given some direct sunlight, they will flower. If the growth is spindly, the plant may not be getting enough light.
Average household temperatures are perfect for Jade plants. They are sensitive to overly wet soils so be sure to allow the potting mix to dry out between waterings. Water only when you can stick your finger all the way into the potting mix and not feel any moisture. Water less in the winter. If given too much water, Jade plants will rot.
To avoid overwatering, put your Jade plant in a clay pot. Clay pots absorb water and will therefore help the plant dry out in between waterings and use a potting mix high in perlite or sand. You can purchase Cactus Mix potting soil or make your own by mixing 1 part standard potting mix with 1 part perlite or sand.
To keep your plant from getting leggy you can pinch out the tips of the stems to force new growth towards the center of the plant.
