|Hibiscus beetles have always been notoriously difficult to control because of their hard outer shell and tendency to find shelter within flower petals. The beetles cause flowers to fall from plants prematurely. Gardeners have several strategies to reduce beetle populations. Picking up fallen blooms each day reduces beetle numbers significantly. A spray such as Orthene will help or you may want to use a systemic as a soil drench to control the pests. One such product is Merit. Another is Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect Control. If you decide to use an insecticide, be sure to apply according to label directions.
