I planted jalapenoes this year and they were doing great. Then the other day I noticed the new peppers were turning red and looks like they have been roasted. Any idea what caused this.

If the peppers are turning red, they are overripe or have developed sunscald - or both. Peppers can go from ripe to overripe in a hurry, especially if the weather is hot. As long as the plants themselves look healthy, I'd chalk it up being overripe. You might want to harvest the green peppers when they are the right size and when they are fully green - before the shoulders begin to change color. Best wishes with your peppers!
