Can i spread sead grass over my sod lawn to thicken up bare and thin areas. If so do I just spread the sead on top of the sod?

The seed will need to make good contact with the soil in order to sprout and grow roots so you can't just broadcast the seed over the sod without some preparation. Before spreading seed you need to do a thorough job of opening up the turf to accept the seed. A vigorous raking or power raking followed by a light topdressing of peatmoss or compost will help to create a seed bed ready to accept seed and get good seed to soil contact. After spreading seed rake it in and keep it moist.
