After 15 years of above tree roots they are sprouitn in my lawn. How can I kill them witout killing the grass?

Simply pruning off the suckers with hand pruners is the safest way to eliminate the suckers. There is a product called Sucker Stopper that you may want to try. It is painted directly on the stub after you prune off the suckers. Hand pruning is the best approach. There's really not much else you can do that will be safe for your lawn and for your tree.
