Closely resembles San Pedro Cactus. I have it in a pot outside. It is almost 4 ft tall and seems to grow rapidly overnight. Does it have to be pruned? If so, how.

You can't really prune a cactus that grows a single trunk. If it develops into a clump you can selectively prune back one or more of the trunks, but you cannot shorten the plant or keep it under a certain height. If your cactus is outgrowing its container you may need to transplant it into a larger container so it doesn't become so topheavy that it falls over.
