You can start a compost pile by collecting all of your landscape prunings and garden debris and just piling it up in a corner of the yard. As long as it is moist and you dig into it with a garden fork to move everything around once a week or so, the material will decompose. Or, you can dig a hole and bury the debris. It will break down without any turning and in about a year you can dig the compost out of the ground. Or, you can build a compost bin out of lumber and hardware cloth to contain the debris. The key is to have both brown and green materials (carbon and nitrogen), to keep it moist but not soggy wet, and to turn it periodically to incorporate fresh air and keep it cooking (decomposing). Hope this information gets you started on the right track!
