Is it true that if you put gladiolus corms into boiling water for a few seconds, it'll kill any thrips that may have been

I'd be concerned about dipping the corms into boiling water. It can damage the outer layers of the corms. The general advice is to dip the corms in very hot--not boiling--water (160?F) for two minutes. Use a thermometer so you don't actually cook the corms.
