How far away to plant really depends upon the mature size of the shrubs. In general, you'll want 18-24 inches between the house and the shrub so you can access the house if you need to for maintenance and so there's adequate air circulation around the shrub to help prevent mildew or other diseases. So, if the mature size of the shrub is 4' wide, you'll want to plant it 4' from the house. This spacing assumes the shrub will put out 2' of growth on all sides of the center, making it 4'. Hope this information is helpful.
