I have put out traps but it seems that the voles have outwitted me again. If I dig a border around my beds and put in fencing, how deep would I need to dig down so that the voles can't get under it?

Voles live in burrows in areas with dense vegetation. so the best prevention is to remove their habitat, cutting back brush, pulling weeds, mowing grass and clearing space around the home.

The good news is that voles are poor climbers. To keep them out of a garden, fence the area with half-inch or smaller mesh, at least 12 inches above ground and buried 6 to 10 inches deep. You might also try trapping again. Bait regular mouse traps with bacon or peanut butter. Good luck with your eradication project.
