Can soil PH and nutrient levels be tested with a soil test kit for compost directly after it is partially or fully decomposed? |
Mature compost generally has a pH between 6 and 8 and you can use a standard soil pH kit to determine the exact pH of the compost. You can't really test for nutrients without specialized lab equipment. If knowing the level of NPK is important to you, you may want to send a sample to a private soil testing lab for analysis. Your local cooperative extension office can provide a list of soil testing labs or you can find them in your phone book. |
