I have a shaded lawn of St Augustine (floratam) that is mostly dead this summer. Can I seed over with Bahia without removing the old grass. I don't use weed killer and little pesticide. I'm trying to do better with environment. Will the seed grow if I use compost to top it off?

You can overseed St. Augustine with Bahia. For best results use 2 to 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. of lawn and lightly cover over the seeds with compost to both keep the seeds moist and to thwart hungry birds. Best wishes with your lawn.
