|Your lawn won't be actively growing during the late fall and winter months but it will benefit from an application of a "winterizer" fertilizer sometime during the month of October. A winterizer fertilizer is low in nitrogen but high in potassium and phosphorous. These minerals help strengthen the roots and the stems of the grass so they'll be healthy and ready to grow in the spring. You can continue to mow and water on a regular basis until after your first hard frost, which will prompt dormancy. After that there's not much you need to do to keep your lawn healthy.
