|Marigolds can be pruned back during the summer months to keep their growth habit in a mound which will keep those stems from getting too heavy. Prune off the spent flowers along with some of the stem. Cut the stem down to a leaf and a new stem will develop from the leaf node. Try pruning the stems down about half way when you prune off a dead flower. I think you'll see a big improvement in the shape of your plant. Enjoy your garden.
