Can I prune my hydrangeas now to get rid of the dead flowers or do I have to wait until winter? I have always done it in January but the sun fried some of the flowers.

You can remove the dead flowers along with some of the stems now, but wait until next winter or early spring to do any major pruning. I generally remove the spent flowers at this time of year because they get heavy with rain and droop over - and I'm afraid they will break the stems if I don't remove them! Enjoy your garden!
