Sounds like transplant stress to me. You can transplant any sized plant. The key is to shade them from hot sunshine until their roots become established and to make sure they get enough water - but not too much. Transplant stress usually shows up as wilting leaves and/or stems. In about a week the roots will establish themselves and the plants should perk up. As long as you temporarily shade them from hot sunshine, they should recover and begin to grow nicely. At that time you can remove the temporary shade.
