Should ornamental grasses be cut back for the winter?

Ornamental grasses should be left alone until spring. At that time you can prune them back or pull up the dead foliage. Leaving them alone allows the foliage to flop over and serve as a protective mulch over the crown of the plant to insulate it from harsh winter weather.
