My 5 yr old crape myrtle flowers for about 5 weeks only. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong - 5-6 weeks of bloom time is about average for crape myrtles. However, if you prune off the spent flowers you'll likely get a second flush of bloom a little later in the summer. Give this a try next year. Since pruning encourages new growth, and crape myrtles flower on new growth, pruning to remove the spent flowers almost always results in a second flush of blooms. Enjoy your garden!
