Strawberry plants should be replaced every 3 years and the easiest way to do this is to pull the older plants and allow the babies to grow. Since you've only recently planted your strawberries I don't think you need to remove the original plants this year. Wait a couple of years and then renew the planting by removing the oldest plants.
