I am looking for a flowering groundcover that will grow in total shade. Is there such a creature and if so could you give me some names?

Flowers are tough to come by in deep shade. Some possibilities to consider are: peacock ginger, strawberry begonia, and 'Katie' ruellia (not too much shade).

Other plants that bring color without blooms include: caladiums, 'Aztec' mondograss, variegated forms of English ivy, and Japanese Painted fern.
