I have two clematis plants that are growing on a two different trellises. I want to bring the trellises in for the winter. Can I cut the vines of the plants so as to free them from the trellises?

You can prune your clematis back. Depending upon which types you are growing, pruning now may retard flowering next year, but pruning won't adversely affect the plant's health.
