What can I do about root rot in a hibiscus plant

There's really no treatment for root rot. You might be able to dig the plant, prune away the damaged roots, amend the soil with compost so it drains well, then replant your hibiscus. If poor drainage is a continuous problem you can plant your hibiscus in a raised bed or a mound of soil so the roots are not subjected to soggy soils.
