I have a soddoed lawn and was wondering how to plant bulbs and bushes in it.

You can simply dig holes in the sod to plant your bulbs and bushes. A shovel can be used to cut squares or circles in the sod to accommodate your new plants. After you have pushed the blade of the shovel down into the sod all around the planting area you should be able to lift the sod, along with its roots, out of the planting area.
