i am having issue with weeds and different grasses invading my established primarily tall fescue lawn. aside from aerating, seeding and applying starter fertilizer, what do you recommend i should do at this point in the year if the wee MUST GO?

You can use a weed control product now and fertilize in a few weeks (check the product label for waiting periods, or you can use a combination weed and feed product now. Either way the weeds will be controlled and your lawn will be fed. In the spring, feed again and use a pre emergent herbicide to keep weed seeds from sprouting. Scotts Turfbuilder with Halts is a good product for spring application. Good luck with your lawn.
