Hi, which loquat variety is sweeter, the Gold Nugget or the Mogi? Which one is the best one for my location? Which one bears the heavier crop? And lastly, are they the only self pollinating loquat trees?

The sweetest and most prolific of the two is Gold Nugget with round to oblong-obovate fruit. Skin is yellow-orange to orange and tender. Flesh isorange-colored, juicy, firm and meaty. Flavor is sweet, somewhat reminiscent of apricot, and of good quality. Seed cavitiy is small and contains 4 or 5 seeds. Ripens late (around April) and the fruits are borne only a few to a cluster. They keep and ship well. The tree ia vigorous, upright, and self-fertile. Most loquats are self-fertile but all do best with a second cultivar nearby for cross pollination.
