How and when is the best time to prune a fig tree?

Fig trees should be pruned when they are dormant (December or January) and you can start by removing any dead or dying branches, along with any upright, non-productive suckers. You can then remove entire branches, if they are misplaced, or simply prune all the branches back by one-quarter to one-third. Hope this clarifies things for you.
