Knock Out roses belong to a family of shrub roses that are bred to withstand cold and heat beyond what most roses can tolerate. However, they are hardy only down to USDA Zone 5 so physical protection from cold winter temperatures and winds is necessary. Mounding soil around the base of the plant, just as you would provide for tea roses, will help your Knock Out roses survive your cold winter temperatures. Best wishes with your landscape!
