|Are burnt leaves and wood ash good for a garden?
|Answer from NGA

|Wood ashes from hardwoods supply potash and can be used at a rate of about 5 pounds per 100 square feet of garden area. However, they are alkaline and should never be used where maintaining a lower or more acidic pH is an issue such as where you might be growing rhododendrons or azaleas. Aside from this caution, ashes from leaves and hardwoods can be used in the garden.
