Do shredded pine needles lower soil PH levels when they decompose?

Certain acidifying organic materials such as peat moss and pine needles can lower soil pH gradually over a period of years, but for more rapid results in lowering pH, sulfur is commonly used. To calculate how much sulfur you will need, you can go to the following website, type in the current soil pH and the program will calculate just how much sulfur you will need to change the pH.
