I have 3 african irises in the bed in front of our house. It's now crowding the walkway and the leaves have gotten so long they are drooping. How can I combat this?

Sounds like it's time to dig the bed and divide your African irises. Use a garden fork so you don't damage the roots too much when you dig. You can divide the clumps with a shovel and replant only a few of the plants in the bed. They multiply rapidly so they will fill the bed when they begin to grow again next spring and next summer. Good luck with your project!
