Can you use alder shavings for compost? Thanks

You can add alder shavings to your compost as long as you balance it with an equal amount of green matter such as grass clippings, vegetable scraps, garden debris, etc. If you overload your compost with a brown or carbon rich material such as alder shavings, the compost pile will stop working. If you balance your green (nitrogen rich) materials with your carbon rich materials, your compost pile will continue to cook and will decompose rapidly. Hope this answers your question!
