Crown of Thorns is a member of the Euphorbia family and prefers bright light indoors or morning sun outdoors. Water and fertilize regularly throughout the growing season whenever the soil becomes moderately dry. Water less frequently during the winter as these plants need a dormancy period. Do not fertilize a crown of thorns during the winter, but feed in the spring with a half strength dilution of a water soluable fertilizer. You can cut back your plant in the spring if it has grown too tall.
You may remove up to two thirds of your otherwise healthy crown of thorns without damaging the plant. Hope this answers all your questions!
