I have been puting scraps of orgaic matter(fruit and veg)to prepare my vegtable garden for next season. How deep should I have dug to bury and what elsa shouldI add |
The smaller the scraps, the faster they will decompose. If you want to compost in the vegetable bed, dig a trench about 8 inches deep, spread a layer of kitchen scraps in the trench and cover it with a layer of shredded leaves or 2-3 sheets of newspaper, then cover over the trench with soil. The combination of scraps and leaves or newspapers covered with garden soil will speed decomposition. Before you plant in the spring, dig the entire bed to a depth of 10-12 inches to work your newly developed compost into the whole bed. |
