tomatoes & peppers - Knowledgebase Question

my tomatoes & pepper plant took off after it got cooler-zone8. I still have green tomatoes & green peppers which will turn red/yellow/orange if left. we're expecting weather about 30deg. should i pick everything?

If it's just an overnight freeze you can probably throw an insulating cloth over each plant. If it looks like winter weather is here to stay, I'd go ahead and pick the veggies. You can eat the peppers even when they are green but the tomatoes should be allowed to ripen on the kitchen counter or in a cool but above freezing garage or basement. Just cut the tomatoes from the plant, leaving a little stem, and wrap individually in newspaper, then store in a cool place. They will ripen on their own.
