Will deer eat my asparagus or sweet potato plants if left unfenced?

In my garden the deer have never bothered the asparagus but they have trampled through it to get to things they preferred at the time. So it is possible that the deer would not eat them, but could trample them instead. In my experience deer will learn to eat nearly any plant and since they are creatures of habit, will return to feed in the same spots over and over again adn will add new plants to the menu over time. If deer are already in your yard or garden, or if there is a possibility of woodchucks or bunnies or other little critters, then I would suggest a fence.
