I think you chose the correct groundcover. Asiatic jasmine (aka Jasmine Minima) has been grown as a ground cover in Florida landscapes for decades. It can grow 8-12" tall but its height can be controlled with annual mowing. Asiatic jasmine does not have to be mowed, but it can mowed once a year as new growth begins in late winter. It should be mowed at the highest mower setting, preferably 3 to 4 inches. It will respond with lots of healthy new growth and lots of flowers.
