Misshapen squash is usually the result of incomplete pollination. You can help avoid this condition by encouraging lots of pollinating insects to visit your garden by planting flowers to attract them and by avoiding the use of insecticides. Tough skin usually indicates overmaturity. Try harvesting your squash when they are only 5-6 inches long instead of waiting for them to become larger. The more often you harvest the more flowers you will encourage, and the more squash your vines will produce. Hope this information helps you have a tasty and bountiful harvest!
