Jackmanii Clematis grows best in full sunshine (6 plus hours of sun) but likes the roots to be cool and shaded. You can accomplish this by planting a small shrub or perennial at the foot of the plant or by setting a large landscape rock in front of the plant to help keep the roots cool. Before planting work some compost or other organic matter into the soil to help loosen the soil, enrich it, and help it hold moisture.

Jackmanii develops flowers on the current season's growth so it will bloom a little later in the summer than other types of clematis - but it's worth the wait! To encourage lots of new growth and lots of flowers, prune your Jackmanii back in the wintertime. Aside from regular watering and an annual feeding, clematis are relatively easy to grow. Enjoy yours!
